Gamification with a side of GAFE (Google Apps for Ed)
In this workshop you will learn how to use the most motivational techniques of gameplay to create a collaborative and creative classroom environment where learning comes alive for your students. You will have time to design a gamified unit so you can start the year ready for your epic adventure to begin!
Day 1: Morning: Adventures in Gamifying: Learn the “why” and “how” so you can begin designing your gamified unit plan right away!
Day 1: Afternoon: Theme & Game Design: Choose a theme and everything will start falling into place. Brainstorm theme ideas and develop a basic framework for a gamified unit of study.
Day 2: Game Mechanics Learn how game mechanics can be incorporated to spark and maintain interest throughout the game. You will have time to brainstorm game mechanic ideas so you can incorporate them into your gamified unit plan and be ready to start your game when school begins!
Day 3: Today is aimed at building competence and confidence to successfully use Google Apps in teaching, curriculum design, and professional practice. Beginning with content creation, editing, and sharing in Google Docs and Sheets, the course continues with Google Forms where participants are introduced to add-ons like Flubaroo and explore both platforms for content distribution, management, formative/summative assessment, and feedback.
