This one-day workshop is for 4th and 5th grade teachers who are committed to teaching five weeks of computer programming using robots in their classrooms during October of 2018. No experience with coding is necessary, just a willingness to learn basic block-style coding and teach alongside a Coder-in-Residence twice a week for 45 minutes during the program. Ideally, two teachers from each school will sign up together. Teachers may bring laptops, or notify us and one can be provided for you.
Learning objectives include describing a robot, its functions, inputs/sensors and outputs/behaviors; understanding the systematic nature of computer code and how to write a series of instructions (algorithms) using ready-made blocks of code; a basic knowledge of logical functions such as loops and conditional statements; and knowing how to explain how the internet works and how bandwidth affects the transmission of messages (code) across various types of connections.
