Game Maker is a powerful tool for teaching Computer Science in a fun way. In this course we’ll discuss the pros and cons of upgrading to the new Gamemaker Studio 2, How to code in Gamemaker, and how to apply it to multiple grade levels and multiple subject areas. We will be looking at the course materials for South Salem High School’s Intro to Programming Course, where we use Gamemaker to captivate interest in programming and prepare students for programming in more advanced programming languages. All skill levels are welcome, from people who have never programmed before up through advanced programmers. Gamemaker is better suited for grades 5-12, though passionate teachers with bright students may find that Gamemaker can be a great tool for younger audiences as well. We will be looking at both, Drag-And-Drop programming and Coding with the Gamemaker Language and in the end everyone will leave with curriculum resources for implementing Gamemaker in some way into their curriculum.
