This workshop will focus on computer science apps, tools and curriculum geared toward 2nd-7th grade. We will be exploring visual block-based programs such as Hopscotch, Tickle, and Ozoblockly, and other introductory programming devices. We will look at Scratch, a free introductory computer programming language, that focuses on creative computing. After working on a few Scratch drag and drop programs, participants will transition to Lightning Lab, a comparable drag and drop program, and program a SPRK+ ball to navigate through a maze.
We will cover a creative ‘design-thinking’ approach to conception, storyboarding, and developing interactive projects. This workshop will introduce lesson plans and project-based curriculum for the classroom. Coding can be exciting and confidence-building, and a skill that everyone can learn. The curriculum and programs we will be working with in this workshop are designed to inspire kids to become makers and bring their own ideas to life. Please bring an iPad to the event if you can.”
