Teaching Computer Science With a Focus On Equity and Inclusion

What does it mean to teach computer science in a way that focuses on equity and inclusion in high school? In this session, participants will experience a lesson from Exploring Computer Science, an introductory national CS curriculum focused on broadening participating in CS in high school. No prior experience needed. Attendees will learn what ECS, how it incorporates inquiry,equity,and CS content, participate in a sample lesson, and learn about a PD opportunity for high school teachers that provides a professional stipend. Curriculum is provided and is free and is aligned to CSTA national standards.

Jill HubbardJill Hubbard teaches computer science at Oregon State University- Cascades. Hubbard is co-PI for a National Science Foundation grant entitled CS for Oregon, a joint effort between OSU-Cascades, Portland State University and the University of Oregon, committed to sustaining the growth of inclusive computer science in high schools throughout Oregon.
