Chris Winikka always loved computers ever since he wrote his first program in the mid-80s on an Atari 800. Even though he majored in writing, he was drawn back to computers when a friend taught him to code his first website on TextEdit in 1995.
Even though he began his teaching career in Language Arts, he knew he would rather teach technology. He soon became web master of Merlo Station High School, and used his summers to intern at Intel and Boeing as a web designer through the Business Education Compact. By 2006, he was teaching Computer Science full time at Century High School.
In his own words, “I am equal parts teacher and student of computer science and web design. I teach students through demonstrations, online exercises, and projects using online tools such as Schoology, YouTube, CamTasia, Edpuzzle, Kahoot, and more.”
Chris’ favorite languages are HTML, CSS, Java, Python, jQuery, PHP, WordPress, and C#. When he has time to spare, he enjoys developing WordPress sites, Unity games, and Android apps.
In addition to teaching computer science, Chris also develops WordPress sites for clients on the side. He’s been moving from one project to the next for the past four years.
