Jo Oshiro here. I have met many of you at previous SuperQuests, OregonASK events, and various meetings around STEM education, grants, and equity, or through my email blasts “In
the OPASsphere.” I and my colleagues will be sharing information through this blog. I’ve got six main categories lined up:
SuperQuest — Randy Macdonald and Janis
Steinfeld are doing the Big Lifts on bringing the SuperQuest workshops to you. I’ll be organizing background information so you can find it on the blog — classes, teachers, strands, stipends, credits …
Educational Resources — what’s out there on the web? What’s free
and well organized? Where do OCSTA teachers stash their lessons? What professional associations offer K-12 resources? (STEM Professionals Share2!) I will cover, as I discover, resources for all grade bands.
Real World CS and Engineering — Germany just met its power demands with renewables for the first time. A turtle just got a 3D printed titanium jaw. Animal Training Methods Teach Robots New Tricks.
OregonEd — What’s the latest ODE funding announcement? Where
are the STEM Hubs? Did you see the Governor’s Proclamation for STEM Week? and various bits on policy, advocacy, and standards.
Grantsmanship — who maintains the best calendar of closing dates for Oregon-applicable funding opportunities? Oregon GEAR-UP, that’s who. Other pieces grant writers and managers might find useful.
Competitions, Exhibitions, and Awards — you know about LEGO
Robotics and that there are teams and tournaments … what about Jr. FLL? FTC? Vex? Underwater Robots? Future City? Virtual Bridgebuilding (complete with free software and testing to destruction)? NCWIT’s Aspirations in Computing Awards for High School Women?
Let me know what other topics you’d like to hear about, and what resources you would like to share. Let me know if you’d like to write a blog post, or share one from elsewhere.
Respectfully submitted,
Jo Oshiro
