Cyber security is one of the most in-demand technology jobs in the world with an incredible employment gap. This workshop focuses on giving technology teachers enough resources and background on cyber security so that they can consider offering either a semester-long, or even year-long course in cyber security topics. Participant should bring their own laptops–Windows, OSX, or Linux is fine. We will be using them throughout the session for labs, workshops, and resources practice.
Day 01: The reality is that many high-school technology teachers know little about cybersecurity. To help mitigate this, the goal for the first day will be to introduce participants to key cyber security concepts, and give them a crash course of the cybersecurity industry and field of study, along with resources to learn more on their own.
Day 02: The second day will focus on what building a full cyber course looks like, from college-credit articulation logistics, to developing a program of study, and looking at curriculum from a high level. Key skills will be discussed to help develop a strong scope and sequence, and major assessments and projects will be shared.
Day 03: For the final day, the goal will be to share as many lessons, programs, and teaching materials as possible, and also share best practices surrounding how to present and embed those materials. The final portion of the workshop will be allocated for teachers to begin organizing all of the recourses and ideas presented, and leave with a game plan as to how they want to move forward in embedding cyber security topics in their programs.
